Wanted: Friends & NFF

Recently I read a blog, (can't remember which one) mommy blogger said finding friends before kids can be hard but it gets harder once you're a mom. I couldn't agree more, but i'd like to add that finding kiddos for my kids to play with can be difficult also.

I had my share of friends in So Cal but still it was difficult to find a balance with the kids and parenting styles of my friends.

Now in South Jersey it's become a mission to even find a friend to talk to that's not hours away so no mama friends= no kiddie friends for little man and little lady.

Little man and Little lady are the babies of the family and the neighborhood.
So I jumped on a website in search of a playgroup around my area. Most of them were already "full" or so they stated. When I finally was about to give up i found one and it even had a spanglish name, it was very cute. I wrote to them to get information on how to join and I am still waiting for a response. This was about 2 months ago. le sigh!

We tried the park in our area but most of the kids there all elementary aged . no Tots.
I'm thinking of maybe going to this bounce place for kiddos.

I want my kids to interact with others kids. It would be great to gain mommy friends in the process but i guess for now we are just the new kids on the block.

Any ideas on how to find friends for my kids?
Is it normally this hard or could it be just because we are "new"?

By the way if you are visiting from New friend fridays WELCOME!!!

Happy Friday!

  1. www.meetup.com
That's how I met my mommy groups!
Look for keywords like family fun, babies, toddlers...things like that. Also, cafemom.com has local groups.

I didn't have much luck with the ladder.

But yeah, you're right, most are full and/or very snobby and don't want to talk to you.

I'm also leaning on starting my own group at meetup. they charge $72 every 6 months. Not bad. You get to organize everything like playdates, park stroller walks, etc...

There is also one called stroller strides. It's national. google it. We have one here. It's a work out group, but with your stroller.

  3. I'm of no help with the kiddy situation....luckily where I live everyone has a bunch of kids but when I have kids I see myself having the same problem.

  4. It is always hard to make new friends in the beginning. Most the friends I made were through classes. I would sign the kids up for things at the library or gym type classes. Keep putting yourself out there and you will meet other 'moms'...I am sure of it :)

  5. I can totally relate. It's hard for me too and I have lived in the same area my entire life. My friends had kids young so none are in the age group of my daughter.

I tried meetup.com too, went to about 5 playgroups before realizing we are not playgroup material. My daughter is shy and has a hard time feeling comfortable around new people. Not only were the other moms snobby, they acted like they all were already BFFs and didn't have room for one more. ;) We were the only mixed race family too. As diverse as my area is I was very surprised.

I don't know, maybe as my daughter gets older we'll meet more friends. Good luck!
