Mi Cultura Mexicana: El Mariachi Huevito Craft

MEXICAN INDEPENDENCE DAY
Today we learned about Mariachi Music! For as long as I can remember, most major fiestas in my family and cultural events we attended had a live mariachi. I was the rebel as a kid that didn't want anything to do with that type of music but as I got older I understood what a big part of mi cultura Mexicana it is.

I now get emotional hearing a mariachi sing and it just a joyful moment. It reminds me of my Tata (grandfather) most because he played a guitar and sang to us as kids all the time. He also has this amazing sombrero much like what a Charro would wear I regret not having a picture to share. I do however have this picture of my Tata  singing and playing his guitar with his brother, My Tio Chon.

My Tata the music lover

I wanted the kids to understand that a Mariachi is much more than just music to us. It was part of our lifestyle. The pride we had when we hear a mariachi sing is indescribable. The way they sing, dress and present themselves.

The kids and I watched a few videos and then jumped in to this craft.

If you remember the LUCHA LUCHA eggs we did last year inspired the amazing Crafty Chica then you will understand where the idea for this Mariachi Huevito craft came from.

Though we only made it to 3 gorgeous little men in our Mariachi band most  Mariachis have more than 7 members!

Little Lady really enjoyed the music I saw her sway to it I want to believe it's in her blood. Little Man of course loved getting to decorate a big mustache man with a fancy sombrero!

I leave you with one of my favorite Mariachi songs!

  2. So cute!! I love how the huevitos look! Marichi is so amazing and it has gone so far. We have them in Venezuela too as part of a latin culture that comes from mexico. I was a rebel too and always used to say I hated it. But it has been a while now that I realized the opposite :)

  4. These are the cutest little huevitos! The feeling I get when I hear mariachi is indescribable. In fact, the last time I heard a mariachi, you were with me at Hispanicize. You saw what happened to me. It goes right through you. Thank you for reminding me, Amiga. xoxo
