We love comics

growing up blackxican comics collection

Hello everyone it’s me Dad aka Marcus and today I wanted to share with you a part of a collection I have going on for Little Man and the story behind it.

Growing up I always liked reading comics and was a big fan of Spiderman. I really didn’t keep up with any of the stories back then but if I went to the store and saw a comic I never saw before I would buy it and take it home to read.

I also like collecting things (NO i'm not a hoarder lol) I still have to this day every Pokémon, Gundam and Dragon Ball-Z card I have ever bought in good condition stored in a card book.

So when I had my son, naturally, I wanted to start him a collection too. First it started off with some cool Transformer rare items I found while I was stationed in San Diego. Then when we moved to NJ I heard that Marvel was starting a new Spider-Man comic where the main character was Black and Hispanic.
I knew I had to start collecting it for him. We even took Little Man to buy one of the comics himself.

I have been collecting that series for him since it started. This past weekend I went to pick up a few comics I had on hold at our local comic book store, STORM WATCH COMICS. Bob (the owner of SWC) had put aside the new green lantern 52 for me too. A lot of people don’t know that the new Green Lantern is Arab-American. I found this to be really cool because I'm noticing a lot of comics now are trying to give kids different heroes to look up to.

While I love the original comics I think its cool to have someone that your kid can relate to. From Marvel’s bi-cultural Spider-man to DC Arabic green lantern I like seeing people being open minded and taking characters in a new direction

I know lots of you are like that’s it what about Little Lady? She has her own little comic collection too. It's  growing big and it’s our Favorite show, Adventure Time! She a big fan of Jake, LSP( lumpy space princess), and PBG( Princess Bubble Gum) We haven’t read any cause we collecting them but she loves looking at the covers.

  1. This is awesome. I think every little boy & girl needs to collect things like comic books & Barbie's & cabbage patch dolls lol. I think it's fun & it shows responsibility to the kids on how to collect, keep things, & take care of things etc. I collected Barbie's & cabbage patch kids when I was little..never was into the comic books..but great job Dad :-)

  3. Haha, I think this is a great idea! I'm a collector also (not a hoarder either) and wish my folks had collected movies for me growing up cause i'm a fanatic. I think the Little's are definitely going to appreciate that you hooked them up as kids!

  5. I think this is very cool, in the digital age I think more parents are less willing to collect print anything. My dad collected comics too, he had boxes and boxes of them!

And I love that the characters have been broadened to appeal to various cultures, makes them a lot more relatable to more kids and adults.

    Your son is so cute!!
